Yoga Review – Corrie van Rijn

One can’t help but feel an immediate sense of peace when entering the wonderful Chapel in the Garden. Having been to many classes in various venues (village halls, gyms, universities) this is definitely my favourite.

Corrie’s presence and manner reflect her surroundings: serene and thoughtful. She encourages you to listen to your body and work with the breath, quoting: “If you can breathe, you can do yoga!”

Chairs were used as props, which worked particularly well for a restorative posture. During our relaxation at the end, we were fortunate to hear the beautiful chanting in the room above: quite blissful!

Her background is in meditation and mindfulness and this shines through her teaching style. A British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) teacher, she organises the very popular Bridport Summer Yoga, taking place in July and August in St Mary’s Church, Bridport, which features a different BWY teacher each week.

One of Corrie’s regulars said: “Her sessions build up really well — at the end of a term I’m doing things I couldn’t have done at the beginning. She’s given me a much better feel for what poses and sequences involve so I’ve been more able to continue doing yoga at home.”

Summary: The perfect way to switch off mid-week in a calm setting with a caring teacher.
