An online donation page has been set up in the wake of Easter Monday’s devastating fire at The Clockhouse, Chideock.
A total of 14 fire crews from Dorset, Devon and Somerset battled the blaze, which was reported just before midday on Bank Holiday Monday, and closed the A35 in both directions for hours. The fire gutted the interior of the building, the thatched roof was lost, and the two gable ends of the building had to be dismantled, after concerns over the safety of passers-by and nearby buildings.
Donation points have been set up in a number of places, including Chideock Village Shop and the Bridport and Lyme Regis branches of NatWest.
Now, an online donation page has been created, and has already raised over £500 in less than 24 hours (as of Thursday lunchtime).
This video, posted today on the Bridport Notice Facebook page, shows the pub in much happier days, as locals celebrated the start of 2013. Footage from A Tale of Two Bell Towers and Nick Gilbey of the Abbots House in Charmouth.
Landlord Michael Long has vowed the pub ‘will be back’ in a post on Facebook.
